The robin stopped knocking.
They say the soul of every living thing goes on….
They say if you stop, listen and look you can see signs of this…..
Do you believe?
Do I believe?
My dog Luke died on March 20.2007. He was my soul dog, you know the ones, they only come once in a while, for those of you who have had one you know what I mean, for those of you who haven’t I hope one day you will.
He was diagnosed with cancer. The vets said he had 2 months. We spent every day together for the next 6 weeks. Long walks, swimming in the ocean and lots of ice cream!
Our last walk together was a beautiful day. I could not believe Luke was sick. He was running so fast, his coat was glisining in the sun and he was smiling and acting like a pup, running thru the mud puddles and spinning around to see if I was still coming, waiting for me to yell “Run Lukey, run!!!” and he would bolt off again as fast as he could. I started singing the song “Forever Young” well, the verse anyway, and humming the rest because I didn’t know the words.
I thought that song should always be “Lukey’s song”.
Then he was gone.
Two days after he died a robin came to the living room window and started knocking on the glass. He would not stop and even after I opened the window he just stood there on the sill.
The next morning he was there again, then the next and the next.
I told my friend about the silly bird and right away she said that was not just a silly bird,
that is Luke showing you he was fine and you should not be sad.
The next morning the robin was there knocking on the window so thinking about what my friend said I opened the window and started talking to him, telling him how much I missed him. The robin just stood there. I decided to get my camera and take pictures, he still stood there, even with the cameras flash going off!
For 12 days the robin was at the window every morning, and sometimes at night.
Some days I had quite the conversation with him… I decided that he may like to see his “Teddy” so I took it outside and sat it on the balcony. The robin stayed for another few minutes, and then flew away.
He never came back the next morning, nor the next.
Maybe when I took the Teddy outside he knew I got his message?
A few weeks went by and no robin. One night I was very sad and was missing Luke very much. The robin came back the next morning.
He has not been back since.
Deciding to start a web page for Luke, I copied out the words for “Forever Young”, finally seeing what all the words to that song were.
The 4th verse starts with “And when you finally fly away”. .

You bet I do!!!
