Luke's Story:
Luke was a very special dog. He was born on October 26.2001. He was one of 6 boys and 2 girls. He was pure black as was a brother and a sister.
At 6 weeks old the pups got their shots. Luke had a reaction to the shots and became very sick. His little feet were so swollen he could not walk. He spent all his time on the sofa watching TV and cuddling with his teddy, and me of course!!!
When he had to go outside I would pick him up and carry him out, then hold him so his feet were just touching the soft moss.
After a couple of months he began to walk a bit. He learned very quickly to ring the bell to go outside.
When he was better my husband, Doug, said it was time to put him in a new home as we already had 4 males!
NOT! In 1 day I taught Luke to go to the fridge, open the door then get a beer out and take it to the sofa!! That night when Doug came home from work and sat down on the sofa I said to Luke “Go get Dad a beer” Well sure enough he did it, and took it right to Doug! Of course Doug said that Luke was here to stay forever.
Luke learned many tricks. Pick up paper and pt it in the garbage, put money in his piggy bank, play basket ball with his little ball and hoop were just some of them.
When I asked him if he would like to come for a car ride he would run around looking for his scarf, I would say “I think it’s in the bedroom”, he would run there and get it.
He knew the different names of the rooms.
I could go on and on about the things he did and the way he was so tuned into me…
On Feb.5. 2007 I noticed Luke had swollen glands, so I took him to the vets for some tests. Cancer. The vet said 2 months max. My heart snapped in two.
He was with me for 6 weeks, and then died at home with Doug, me and his Teddy right there.
This web site is about Luke.
Please read “The Robin Stopped Knocking” This is a very true story, I still get shivers when I think about it, and some people think I am a bit crazy, but sometimes there seems to be a robin following me….
“Luke’s Teddy is about some of the special things I remember about Luke.
