The "Luke's Legacy, Best Friend Walk" 2008, Courtenay and Nanaimo,  were a huge success.

Thank you to all who made them so.

We raised $4000 , which was double the amount of last years!

Check out the story on Shaw TV about Luke's Legacy Walk in Nanaimo:

On March 20th, 2007, my soul dog, Luke, died of cancer.  He was a pure black German Shepherd.

After losing Luke, I started a fund at the University of Guelph, to honour his memory. The "Luke's Legacy Fund" will help build Canada's first cancer centre for companion animals.

The cancer centre will provide comprehensive animal cancer diagnosis, treatment and investigation, using the latest in diagnostic imaging, radiation, surgery, chemotherapy, and investigative therapies.

There will be new examination rooms, chemotherapy suites and procedure rooms, along with improved patient wards, outdoor facilities and family rooms, as well as a quiet space for families to be with their best friends.

On September 23rd, 2007, we held our first "Luke's Legacy Best Friends Walk" in the Comox Valley, and over 40 people and 50 dogs participated in this special event.  We were thrilled with the turnout.  The walk went well and raised over $2000.  This year, we will be holding the Second Annual Walk, on October 26th, 2008, at Simms Park in Courtenay.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the walk will start at 10:00 a.m.  Many people have stepped up to help and many great ideas have surfaced.  We are especially honoured to have Suzi Beber and the “Smiling Blue Skies ® Cancer Fund (www.smilingblueskies.com”) supporting us!  It promises to be a bigger, better walk, with lots of special treats for the pets and people who participate.

We are also planning an additional "Luke's Legacy Best Friends Walk" on October 5th, at Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo, with the same start times as noted above.  This walk could not take place without the generous support of Dana Wengel. I am asking you to be a part of this project by making a donation to the “Luke’s Legacy” Fund.

This year I will have a “Best Friends” presentation at both walks which will highlight the special people, businesses and clubs, who have made a contribution to this special project in cash, or by the donation of products worth greater than $100.00

We are very appreciative of all donations!  Thank you so much for your support.

 Yours truly,

 Heather Wilson
